LionEdge’s “Post Edge” workout comes with some odd branding, but a great idea. It’s a post-workout supplement – a combination of whey protein with micronutrients, BCAAs, creatine and more – which attempts to bridge the gap and provide a complete, one-stop recovery supplement.
We’re going to ‘whey in’ (sorry, couldn’t resist!) on what we think about this product, how effective it’s likely to be, and how it compares with other products on the market. Read on if you’re ready to get an edge on your progress, whether that’s a LionEdge or not.

The product is a simple combination of tried-and-tested protein, with some secondary ingredients that provide recovery benefits.
The first impression we get is that there’s a lot going on in this product – and not many servings per container. We also think it’s interesting that it includes so many compounds that are not conventionally thought of as being ‘performance’ or recovery-boosting ingredients.

Directions for Use
Honestly, this product is a difficult one. It’s obviously for use as soon as possible post-workout, since it’s going to contribute to proper recovery and the protein is important for muscular recovery/growth signaling.
However, the dose is probably better at 1.5 scoops than just a single scoop. This is because key secondary compounds like Creatine are way under-dosed in favor of other compounds (like a ton of valine, which we don’t feel is as important).
So we recommend 1-1.5 scoops in water or milk after a workout. Other liquids work, we just don’t want to imagine you blending it with orange juice.

Electrolyte Support Matrix
An electrolyte matrix is useful for supporting muscular performance and endurance. These are sweat out when you exercise, too, so it’s important to replenish your muscular supplies with your diet.
Potassium, Sodium, and Calcium are the three key minerals necessary for better performance. These are great for supporting an effective mineral balance in the muscles – especially calcium. This is key for the muscles being able to contract, which is going to be pretty essential.
Sodium and potassium work together, but also against each other. Too much of one without the other is a real concern, but this product contains both. This ensures a balance between the two in the body.
This is the ideal state for better performance, less cramping, and helping you to kickstart your recovery after a workout. This trio of electrolytes is also perfect for combatting muscular damage, which is often the result of electrolyte imbalance.
There’s also magnesium and coconut water powder in this product. This means rapid rehydration and a supplementary dose of one of the most important generalist minerals around. This is exactly what we’d hoped for when it comes to a post-workout recovery complex and it provides a great spur for recovery and growth.
Muscle Growth, Strength, and Recovery Matrix
This is the most significant part of the product, especially since there’s a serious role for the whey protein in this product. You could look at this as the king of protein powders, but it’s clearly more than that.
Either way, this matrix is a significant part of improving your recovery and growth.
Whey Protein: A Classic
This is a great source of protein for your post-workout recovery. Protein is obviously the building-block of muscles and other key tissues, which are damaged during the exercise process. Dietary protein intake is a significant player in repairing damage and providing the raw materials for growth.
Whey is a rapidly-absorbing form of protein and this is going to make it perfect for a post-workout product. It’s a key player and the LionEdge post-workout supplement is making the right choice by starting with 27-28g of protein per serving.
This can rapidly start you towards optimal recovery after a workout, which is why it’s usually taken in the hour following the end of a session.
BCAAs: An Overrated Choice
Here we have BCAAs with added Leucine. You do want a significant amount of Leucine in your diet, since this is a key amino acid for muscle growth, but whey protein also contains a bunch of BCAAs. The addition of them to a whey-based product feels a bit unnecessary. Given that most people can also obtain enough BCAAs if following a high-protein diet, it feels a little like overkill.
Glutamine – Conditionally Essential, Probably Useful
Glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid. It’s got some interesting roles in digestion and illness-prevention.
The main benefit to glutamine in this product is to help mediate stress and illness risks in response to training. This is pretty useful since there’s nothing more frustrating than losing progress because you’re ill, or losing sleep over anxiety.
It’s not going to change your world, but it’s a nice protective chemical to have. If you’re a vegetarian, this is way more important, since it’s often found in animal products.
Betaine: Our Second Favorite Osmolyte
Betaine is a cool little compound that is associated with better overall health, as well as being a key player in your cells’ health.
It’s a compound that is great for improving the uptake of water into cells. This is one of the most important ways of boosting your recovery and growth since it ups cell volume – a key player in muscle growth.

Creatine: You Want It.
Creatine is one of the absolute best post-workout recovery compounds. It’s appropriate at almost any time of day, before and after workouts, and it has amazing, proven benefits.
It’s a compound that contributes to overall strength-endurance, as well as supporting metabolic health of muscle cells. This makes it a great way of supporting better muscular recovery and growth all by itself.
However, as hinted at, it’s also a key osmolyte. It helps to draw more water into muscle cells which keeps them healthy, supports better recovery, and contributes to the signals for muscle growth. If you’re post-workout, this is a great compound to kickstart recovery and improve health.
If you’re working hard, creatine is your best friend. There are tons of quality benefits and we recommend it thoroughly. The dosage is quite low here, but it’s a good product. If you take 1.5 scoops, you’re going to be getting the recommended 2.5g.
The absorption complex is built on the back of piperine – a compound we really like. It’s a black pepper extract that increases the absorption of most forms of nutrients through the intestine into the bloodstream.
This makes the other compounds – like creatine and glutamine – more effective. You’re going to make every gram of nutrient work better if you’re ensuring proper digestion and uptake of them. For this reason, Piperine is a really useful secondary compound in this supplement.
Chromium is also in this blend, though we’re not entirely sure why. It’s a very different kind of compound, and is only conditionally useful. Chromium deficiency is a problem that can cause you to hold extra bodyfat, but most people aren’t deficient in Chromium, so it’s curious why this product uses it. We like using vitamins and minerals like this, but it’s not the clearest choice for a post-workout supplement.
Ginger: King of Herbs?
Ginger is great as a general health compound. We’re actually really glad to see it included in this product because it’s such a good generalist herbal extract.
Ginger is primarily useful for anti-inflammatory benefits, which can be useful in response to the inflammation seen after exercise. It should be a positive influence in your recovery, as well as positively affecting health measures like cholesterol, reducing illness risk, and it even reduces muscle soreness!
For a traditional medicine compound, ginger has a ton of scientific evidence and cool benefits. Great choice.
A mild anti-inflammatory compound that is found in pineapple juice. It’s another extract that doesn’t have a distinct role in this product, but gets by on being ‘generally good for your health’. Obviously, it’s not a problem, but it’s also possibly just a waste of space in this product.
Anti-inflammatory aids are good, but this doesn’t make it a much better recovery product. Especially when Creatine dosing is verging on being too low to be effective without the additional half scoop. Less bunk, more creatine.
Celazine: Also filler!
A mild and un-proven form of anti-inflammatory. Not a particularly stellar recovery/growth compound. It’s designed as a joint care supplement but it’s not exactly competing with cod liver oil or glucosamine.
Insulin Activation Anabolic Matrix
Carnitine: A Good Choice, Not a Great One
Carnitine is pretty cool: muscle carnitine levels are important for proper function, recovery, and growth, but it can also reduce blood glucose. This isn’t that important post-workout, but the combined effects of all these changes should be positive.
ALA is good, but overrated.
It’s a key player in metabolism, primarily of the control of glucose and reducing oxidative stress in the short-term. These are some useful changes because oxidation is tied to things like aging and cancer risk, but these benefits are a little over-hyped.
You’re probably not going to notice the presence of ALA in this product, but it’s a decent enough ingredient. It’s definitely good for you, we’re just not sure that it should be in this supplement instead of more creatine, for example, or other secondary ingredients.
It combines well with Carnitine and Ginger, so there’s clearly some thought here. However, it just isn’t the calibre of ingredient we’d like to see.
Cinnamon bark: sure, why not?
This has some general digestive benefits, but nothing crazy. It’s primarily useful for the cinnamon oil and its effects on the gut, often reducing feelings of nausea or illness.
We’re not particularly bothered by this ingredient: we could take it or leave it. It’s a good example of the problem with this product, being useful but not particularly specific with what it’s trying to achieve.
Vitamin D3: The Best Vitamin Supplement Choice Around
Vitamin D is one of the most important compounds to supplement because the majority of people are deficient. Even then, recommendations for vitamin D intake are way too low – so it’s good to get more into your diet.
It’s a compound that is closely tied to the regulation of hormones like testosterone, but also to mental health and performance. Vitamin D comes in a number of forms, but the one in this product is D3 – the most effective and important kind.
This is a great inclusion since it supports your diet closely overall, on top of the muscle-specific benefits.

Overall, we’re more impressed with what the product is trying to do than how it does it. The overall idea of providing a comprehensive post-workout supplement is one we always enjoy because it’s one of the most important times to focus on nutrition.
However, the actual execution of this idea isn’t perfect. There are a lot of quality ingredients in this product but so much of it is taken up with compounds that don’t actually add much to your recovery and growth. This obviously feels like a missed opportunity.
The use of protein as a base, but with creatine and other secondary compounds is a great format. However, it falls short on the creatine load by itself, while using twice as much glutamine. We’d rather see a stronger focus on the things that directly support recovery, growth, and better muscular energetics.
Does it Work?
This product does a lot of good – the formula definitely works. It’s a quality start, but some of the choices are sub-optimal.
The result is a product that does what it sets out to do, but sometimes feels like it’s not all it could be. There are some great secondary ingredients and the use of things like piperine suggest attention to finer detail – a focus that produces better results for you.
Overall, we’d like to see some tweaks, but this is an effective and genuinely useful product. We can safely say it’s a good choice for your post-workout nutrition, when your body needs it most!

This is a great general-use product that is going to work for the average Joe about as well as the elite athlete. It’s a relatively low protein content so you may not want to just use the standard doses if you’re on a very high daily protein intake.
However, it’s a generalist product and you can always use another form of protein powder. What this product offers goes beyond the protein to a recovery aid across pretty much every domain.
Even if we think it could be better, it’s going to be useful whatever your goals. The Powerlifter and Marathon runner can equally get significant benefits from this product, so it’s going to suit you – and especially if you find yourself somewhere in the middle of those two extremes!
If you’re an average Joe looking for better results without over-investing in a bunch of supplements, this is the choice.

Lion’s Edge Nutrition Post Edge Price & Buying Info
At $60 for a 2.2lbs container, this product isn’t miles outside of the regular price range of protein powders. It adds a lot more value than a regular protein shake, so we think it’s a pretty good price point, but it does only contain 20 servings, and you might want to go over the single-scoop recommendation.
You can definitely find cheaper products on the market, but this is one of the better ones and it’s going to be a reasonable investment. $60 is also very little when you compare it to other types of supplement.
You could easily pay $60 for bunk if you weren’t reading this kind of amazing article from yours truly. $60 is a pretty standard price point and we think it’s a reasonable way to spend your money for some pretty significant returns.

This is a good product – and not far from being great. We think the idea of the product and post-workout supplements overall is one of the best. This kind of product really does a lot for your recovery and progress.
LionEdge’s Post Edge would benefit from some small tweaks to the secondary compounds and a shift in priorities. However, even with these issues it still provides a high-quality product and we can confirm it’ll do the things it sets out to do.
It might not be the best example of this kind of product that we’ve ever seen, but it does a damn good job. If you’re looking to keep it simple and improve your diet to improve your strength, endurance or physique, this is definitely a reasonable choice.
