A lot of consumers tend to buy separate supplements for separate purposes. The supplement industry thrives on providing consumers a variety of supplements with a variety of functions. When you think about it, it’s not a bad idea to capitalize on this need by making a supplement that actually does more than just one thing. And that’s what GNC did when it came out with Lean Shake Burn.
Lean Shake Burn touts itself as being more than just a fat burner with its claims of incorporating protein and energy for gym performance. We like what we see so far and the label looks beautiful and enticing indeed but will it perform as expected or buckle under the pressure of being a multitasker? Let’s find out.

All those vitamins and minerals won’t hide the fact that Lean Shake BURN is just an average supplement.
In the context of a typical health supplement, Lean Shake Burn is pretty neat to have but the supplement industry is brimming with typical health supplements and in our opinion, this product is not even close to what the top preworkouts or fat burners are capable of. Let’s break down the ingredients in this formula:
Protein, Vitamin, and Mineral stack
Looks like this fat burner also doubles as a preworkout based on this stack. It has 30 g of protein which is decent while the vitamins and minerals were dosed no better than typical OTC brands.
Lean Muscle Recovery Blend
- L-Carnitine, 250 mg
On top of being a generally good fat burner, L-Carnitine also boasts of muscle recovery properties and help reduce muscle soreness. We like it both as a preworkout and a fat burner but the standard dose for L-Carnitine always starts at 500 mg.
- BioCore® Edge, 100 mg
We did some research on this new ingredient and we found out it was some sort of protease that helps optimize amino acid delivery from protein. It’s basically a premium form of protein absorption enhancer. Dosage starts at 25 mg and we have four times that amount so no problems here.
- Sicilian Blood Orange Fruit & Peel Extract, 50 mg
This is a so-called highly prized fruit in the Mediterranean not just because of taste but also because of their antioxidant benefits.
- Lutemax 2020 Lutein, 1 mg
This is a carotenoid for the eyes. Seriously, why put an eye supplement in the mix?
High-Energy Thermogenic Blend
- Caffeine, 200 mg
Good old caffeine. Still the most popular source of energy and added fat burning in just about any stack.
- Capsimax Fruit Extract, 33.34 mg
This is a premium brand of cayenne, an ingredient capable of spiking thermogenic activity inside your body and makes you sweat as a result. Dosage wise, it’s a bit minimal but it should still work due to brand’s potency.
- Piperine, 5 mg
This is your all-around absorption booster that also works as a fat burner similar to cayenne. Piperine is the active compound you want and is potent even in small doses like this.
Formula Analysis
Lean Shake Burn has a multitude of goodness in one scoop. So much in fact that we’re not sure if it can give its fat burning function justice.
The protein here seems to be plenty enough and it also contains vitamins and minerals to help replenish the good stuff you’ll lose after a tough workout. Granted the dosing for vitamins and minerals is lacking, it’s not the main selling point of Lean Shake Burn. Hey, if you want a similar stack, just go pop a Centrum pill or two.
As a preworkout, we’re not entirely sure what Lean Shake Burn is up to. Their Lean Muscle Recovery Blend has ingredients that are either low-dosed or simply shouldn’t be there. We can stretch adding antioxidants but Lutein? Can lifting weight make you blind now?
You know what’s weird? They promote the product as a recovery blend but they also want you to take it before exercising. Seems contradicting if you ask us.
Moving on, as a fat burner, Lean Shake Burn only makes use of three ingredients but we do tip our hats to how they dosed each one. They also used two of our best 5 fat burning ingredients and to us, that’s always a plus.
So it’s a weird preworkout and a decent fat burner. Do those things make Lean Shake Burn worth the money? We don’t think so specially because the bottle outright recommends you to buy the rest of the Lean Shake Burn line to maximize the effect and we think it’s weak.
Granted, some of the supplements also recommend the same thing, the difference is those products can stand on their own while Lean Shake Burn can barely do everything it claims with one serving. At best, it’s a good protein and energy shake and that’s about all we can say for it.
Lean Shake BURN Benefits
It has a good amount of protein for recovery and muscle growth as well as have a good source of energy for the tough workout ahead. The preworkout half of this supplement is so-so but it should still give you some recovery benefits. For fat burning, it’s not the highlight of the supplement but it’s there.
Who Takes It?
It’s for protein and preworkout enthusiasts first, fat burner lovers second. That’s just how it’s built, folks.
Any Side Effects?
There is 200 mg of caffeine here without anything to mitigate the side effects so if you’re not a fan of coffee, you might get jittery and get a crash. There’s also a chance of you sweating more than usual thanks to the cayenne.

Final Word on Lean Shake BURN
Lean Shake Burn has some pretty neat ingredients. They go out of their way to make a protein, preworkout, and fat burner in one plus add in some vitamins and minerals in the mix. It’s built to be one of those multitasking supplements for sure but quite frankly, we think it could’ve been so much better had it stuck to being a pre or postworkout.
We say that since fat burning here seems to be added as a mere suggestion and not the highlight despite what the name of the product implies. By the end of the day, you really have to think of a reason why you would buy Lean Shake Burn. It passes for a protein and (barely) preworkout supplement but fat burning seems to make you question your spending habits.

i have been using this product as a pre workout but recently found out that taking antioxidants prior to exercise is counter productive and that some antioxidants may hurt muscle growth when taken before working out. Would taking this before working out hurt my efforts
