Here’s a recap on the Nugenix saga thus far:
Nugenix Testosterone Booster sucked.
Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone rocks. And Nugenix PM is pretty damn good, too. Thus, it stands to reason that Nugenix Maxx should be the best damn Nugenix product on the damn market. After all, it uses the word “Maxx,” which is short for maxximum. And it’s way more expensive than any other Nugenix product. Way more expensive.
But we don’t take things at face value here at Best5. Because we’re MF supplement reviewers, baby. We review, then we decide: Should we buy this or not? So, before jumping to conclusions, let’s read the Nugenix Maxx review.

About Nugenix Maxx
Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone was only an “Advanced Free Testosterone Complex.” But Nugenix Maxx is an “Ultra Premium Testosterone Booster” supplement, which is wayyy better — am I right, doods?? If so, it must be pretty damn good, because the original Nugenix is awesome. Formula notes:
- Herbal Extracts: Nugenix Maxx utilizes premium, powerful, potent plants, each standardized to their most bio-active qualities.
- Best5 Favorites: Whereas Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone supplied nearly all of our favorite test boosters, Nugenix Maxx reduces that number to Zinc and Vitamin D.
- Premium Plants for a Premium Price: These high quality ingredients don’t come cheap and easy. In fact, they don’t come at a mid-range price either — this product is expensive AF.

Nugenix Maxx jacks up the Nugenix test booster design with premium herbal extracts and compounds, yet removes its best ingredient: D-Aspartic Acid.
Considering that we’re seeing a near $100 jump in pricing from the regular Nugenix test booster to Nugenix Maxx, the “Ultra Premium Free Testosterone Booster,” we’d expect a near $100 boost in test boosting. But, well …we’re not so sure Nugenix Maxx accomplishes that.
Unless you highly value vitamins and minerals, which have been added to Nugenix Maxx as:
- Vitamin D – The best vitamin for test, Vitamin D plays a mysterious, yet key role in testosterone health for its direct relationship to test levels.
- Zinc – An even better ingredient for test levels, Zinc is the manliest mineral on the market, playing a direct role in testosterone synthesis. This is why Zinc sits at the #2 spot on our BIG List of T-Boosters.
Don’t get it twisted: D3 and Zinc are great for male enhancement. But don’t go grabbing your wallet just yet! We’ll still need to check out the meat of this formula. Those herbs, baby.
Nugenix Maxx Review: Ingredients
Not too sure why Nugenix removed its best ingredient — D-Aspartic Acid — from this formula. But let’s hope these ingredients more than make up for it, justifying the huge jump in price.
Fenugreek Extract (as Testofen®) – Found in both Nugenix and Nugenix Maxx, Fenugreek is a hugely popular testosterone boosting herb for its free testosterone raising bio-activities. Oddly enough, Nugenix Maxx supplies less Fenugreek than the original Nugenix formula, slicing a substantial 100 mg off here.
Ashwagandha Extract (as KSM-66®) – Dosed at 600 mg (same as Fenugreek), this Ayurvedic herbal adaptogen potentially limits the negative effects of stress, increasing testosterone expression and strength levels. As well as reducing anxiety for an enhanced, nootropic headspace.
Shilajit Extract (as PrimaVie®) – A mineral-heavy tar that develops on rocks, Shilajit is a well-researched ergogenic testosterone booster that’s gaining traction in the bodybuilding world. And for good reason: it works. Nugenix Maxx smartly goes with the PrimaVie branded extract.
Tribulus Alatus Extract (as Testafuranol™) – Arguably better than standard Tribulus terrestris, Tribulus alatus is a much more uncommon Tribulus ingredient, despite possessing more promising research than its terrestris counterpart. Nugenix Maxx makes another smart move with the Testafuranol branded Trib.
Eurycoma Longifolia Extract – A multi-purpose, vitality enhancing powerhouse, Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) seems to benefit testosterone expression while also reducing cortisol levels, improving the test:cortisol ratio for a more anabolic muscle metabolism.
Rhodiola Extract – Even more cortisol reduction support, Rhodiola reduces the negative effects of stress and fatigue, improving testosterone activity and strength gains. No joke — this herb makes you feel goooood.
Maca Extract – Talking about feeling goooood, Maca makes you feel goooood. But it doesn’t seem to do anything for testosterone levels. Even so, it’s a great botanical for male health.
Panax Ginseng – One thing we know about this herb: it’s definitely good for you. But that’s almost all we know about this elusive botanical, which might assist with testosterone levels …maybe.
White Button Mushroom Extract – Agaricus bisporus helps block aromatase, the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to estrogen. As such, it’s a key ingredient for testosterone booster supplements that also wish to keep inadvertent estrogen boosts in check.
Black Pepper Extract (as BioPerine®) – Always a good idea to sprinkle a little piperine into your formula. Often found in fat burner supplements for its thermogenic properties, black pepper extract also enhances nutrient absorption, increasing the overall bio-availability of this formula.
Formula Analysis
Nugenix used to be a pretty shitty supplement. However, the manufacturer’s improvements to the original formula has elevated it to our 2016 and 2017 Best Testosterone Booster Supplements lists. And so, you’d think we’d be HUGE fans of Nugenix Maxx, the seemingly better, more expensive Nugenix formula, right?
Here’s the thing: We like this formula. Nugenix Maxx works.
For free testosterone levels.
However, the standard Nugenix formula works for both free AND total testosterone levels, covering a wider spectrum of masculine bio-pathways. And Nugenix did this with two key ingredients not found in Nugenix Maxx: D-Aspartic Acid and Mucuna Pruriens Extract — both of which target two distinct pathways to alpha levels of testosterone production.
What’s more, the original Nugenix formula had more Fenugreek than this one, despite Fenugreek being one of two featured ingredients in this 120 caps formula. Not that these changes are that big of a deal: Nugenix Maxx is still a great testosterone boosting formula. However, given the price difference, as well as this product’s use of “Maxx,” we expected this formula to be …well, better.
Granted, Nugenix Maxx does carry a few key testosterone boosters not found in the original formula — e.g., Ashwagandha, Shilajit. We’re just not sure that they justify Nugenix Maxx’s price jump. (See pricing below.)
Nugenix Maxx Benefits
Despite the extreme-O name-O, Nugenix Maxx’s health claims are pretty modest:
- Boost Free Testosterone
- Support Libido & Energy
- Increase Muscle Strength
And given the formula’s emphasis on herbal adaptogens, these benefits seem spot on. While Nugenix Maxx misses out on the claim to boost total testosterone levels, due to the manufacturer’s removal of DAA, Nugenix Maxx may enhance many other aspects of male health and performance. In fact, this formula might be more beneficial for the younger, athletic crowd, whereas standard Nugenix gears towards older, mature men.
Having said that, we’re still unsure why Nugenix Maxx’s price spiked so high, considering that its benefits don’t necessarily outperform the original formula. If anything, they’re a downgrade.
Who Takes It?
Younger Nugenix Fans. If the original Nugenix formula benefits older Nugenix users, Nugenix Maxx opens its door to a younger crowd — one that may already have decent testosterone levels, but would like to further activate them for greater muscle and strength gains. Or for that extra sexual spice that comes with these herbs.
Any Side Effects?
For the most part, the customer reviews on Nugenix Maxx are positive, filled with happy reports on the safe results of taking this supplement long-term. Of the negative customer reviews, none indicate any significant risk of side effects. Even so, Nugenix slapped this warning on Nugenix Maxx’s label:

Final Word on Nugenix Maxx
Nugenix Maxx works for free testosterone, libido, energy, muscle and strength. It’s a smart testosterone booster filled with smart, premium testosterone boosters. Is it as good as the original Nugenix formula? This Nugenix Maxx review says “No.” Even so, this formula is great for the bodybuilding athlete (with a lot of extra money to spend), who’s biding his time until he’s ready for a more balls deep approach to testosterone boosting, the OG: Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone.
