Meet the Revolutionary Post-Workout Recovery Formula
If you’ve never heard of Dr. Jim Stoppani, you’re missing out. Big time.
Dr. Stoppani, the tattooed, postdoctoral research fellow at Yale School of Medicine and fitness author, is also the founder and CEO of JYM Supplements.
This is the same company which brought you its signature protein supplement, JYM Pro JYM (we think it’s pretty good, folks. Try it.).
Behold, Dr. Stoppani now brings you his JYM Post JYM.
He dubs it his “revolutionary post-workout recovery formula” which has the precise amount of ingredients you need to achieve your fitness goals.
JYM Post JYM has similiar ingredients to Stoppani’s vaunted pre-workout supplement, JYM Pre JYM (check out our awesome B5 pre-workout reviews here).
Why is that?
Dr. Stoppani argues taking branch-chained amino acids (BCAAs), creatine hydrochloride, beta-alanine, betaine, and taurine “need to be consumed before and after every workout for maximal performance and muscle growth,” per the manufacturer’s official website.
Because of that, Stoppani says JYM Pre JYM and JYM Post JYM are meant to work in tandem.
“Take Pre JYM to train like an animal; use Post JYM to recover like a pro,” he says.
Recover like a pro? Wow. We like that.
The first main post-workout ingredient are BCAAs. Modern protein powder supplements have an added dose of these, and for good reason.
You can even supplement with a BCAA-enriched post-workout such as JYM Post JYM together with your protein powder for more muscle growth.
Why are we big on BCAAs for post-workout recovery?
Simply put, they enhance muscle protein synthesis which can help you put on lean muscle mass.
Some studies even suggest consumption of BCAAs can help prevent muscle loss if you need to take some time off from training for whatever reason.
Awesome, isn’t it?
The good news: BCAAs can also help you torch fat, increase strength and endurance, boost recovery, and promote longevity.
Now you have every reason to consume BCAAs after a hard workout, folks.
JYM Post JYM’s second post-workout ingredient is creatine hydrochloride.
If you’ve been purchasing supplements for quite some time now, you’ll notice most creatine products feature creatine monohdryate.
Hey, this kind of creatine is great. However, there are some knocks against it:
- Mediocre solubility
- May cause some stomach discomfort
- Can cause water bloating
On the other hand, creatine hydrochloride dissolves well in water. Say goodbye to unwanted stomach discomfort and water bloating.
You will get the same benefits from creatine hydrochloride as you would from creatine monohydrate (more muscle mass and improved athletic performance, among others), it’s just that the former has better solubility.
The third post-workout ingredient of JYM Post JYM is beta-alanine, which helps increase muscular strength, muscle mass, endurance (anaerobic and aerobic), and exercise capacity.
Sounds good, but we feel you’re better off taking beta-alanine before your workouts instead.
Sorry, Dr. Stoppani.
Another ingredient which the manufacturer claims will help you recover like a pro is betaine – an amino acid which plays a key role in muscle protein synthesis.
Perhaps betaine’s best benefit is its ability to lower homocysteine levels in the blood, which, in turn, boosts cardiovascular health.
Lastly, JYM Pro JYM has taurine, which is an amino acid known for lowering levels of cortisol – the dreaded stress hormone – in the body.
Makes sense to us – the lower your cortisol levels are, the higher your chances are of building and retaining more muscle mass. Perfect.
Let’s check out the formula ingredients:
- Total carbohydrate, 2 g: JYM Post JYM is a low-carb, post-workout supplement at just one percent of the daily value for this nutrient. Granted, you need carbs to optimize your post-workout recovery. However, you may be better off getting them from another product such as JYM Post JYM dextrose.
- Sodium, 120 mg: JYM Post JYM is not a high-sodium supplement at five percent of the daily value. In fact, this is the maximum level for those who are watching their sodium intake. Having said that, this product’s sodium content is safe for just about everyone.
- L-glutamine, 3 g: This is the most abundant amino acid in the body which helps preserve muscle mass, increase human growth hormone levels, and improve gut health. All of these attributes are awesome when it comes to achieveing post-workout goals.
- Creatine hydrochloride, 2 g: We feel this is a good amount of creatine hydrochloride for a post-workout supplement. JYM Post JYM gives you the post-workout benefits of creatine without the solubility and digestion issues, like we said.
- Beta-alanine, 2 g: Two grams of beta-alanine per serving is just a waste of time because this amino acid has more pre-workout benefits than post-workout ones. Dr. Stoppani should have saved more of this for JYM Pre JYM instead.
- l-carnitine l-tartarate, 2 g: L-carnitine is best known for its ability to burn fat cells and increase metabolism. One kind of l-carnitine is l-carnitine l-tartarate (LCLT) which helps improve recovery. Obviously, it’s a tremendous asset to JYM Post JYM.
- Betaine, 1.5 g: This amino acid’s role in muscle protein synthesis is well-documented. It’s not as renowned as the three branch-chained amino acids (BCAAs), but it should help in this regard.
- Taurine, 1 g: We like the addition of taurine to JYM Pro JYM because one thing you don’t need after an intense workout is cortisol, the stress hormone. The lower your levels are, the higher your chances are of building muscle mass.
- L-leucine, 3.6 g: Dr. Stoppani and Co. put a premium on leucine more than any other ingredient in JYM Post JYM, and it’s hard to dispute that. Leucine is the BCAA which is primarily responsbile for kickstarting the muscle protein synthesis process. Without it, you’ll be hard-pressed to gain muscle.
- L-isoleucine, 1.2 g: This BCAA is a precursor of l-glutamine and l-alanine. It assists in the protein synthesis and anti-catabolism processes.
- L-valine, 1.2 g: This BCAA comes in handy when you talk about muscle tissue repair and nitrogen balance. The more positive your nitrogen balance is, the greater the chances of growing muscle.
- BioPerine, 5.3 mg: Supplement newbies may be unfamiliar with this ingredient, which is a by-product of black pepper. It acts in the same way digestive enzymes found in some protein supplements do – improve the absorption of key nutrients and ingredients.
Formula Analysis
At fist glance, JYM Post JYM everything you need from a post-workout supplement.
If a potent formula with glutamine, creatine hydrochloride, l-carnitine l-tartarate, betaine, taurine, and BCAAs don’t impress you, nothing will.
Tell you folks what: A protein supplement will help you achieve your muscle-building goals in conjunction with regular exercise, good nutrition and enough sleep. No doubt about it.
However, you can also grow muscle without taking protein powders by supplementing with a good post-workout supplement such as JYM Post JYM.
The creatine hydrochloride, BCAA, betaine, and glutamine components will help ensure you pack on lean muscle mass.
On the other hand, the l-carnitine l-tartarate and taurine ingredients will help you preserve it.
Plus, the amount of BCAAs (six grams per serving) trumps those of protein supplements such as Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey (5.5 grams per serving).
Impressive.
So, there you have it: We like the combination of ingredients. It’s very promising.
We also like the amount of each ingredient. Glutamine’s three grams per serving and l-isoleucine’s 3.6 grams per serving will help you increase muscle mass and boost your post-workout results.
Oh, and did we mention JYM Post JYM is low in calories, carbs, and sodium?
The one thing we’re iffy about is the inclusion of beta-alanine, which, like we said, is better as a pre-workout ingredient.
The other thing which we don’t like is the inclusion of FD&C Red #40, an artificial food coloring which has p-Cresidine, a human carcinogen, per The National Toxicity Program of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Watch out, folks.
Finally, it would have been better if the manufacturer was more transparent. It’s good JYM Post JYM has no proprietary blends, but the company did not establish the daily values for this product.
Some consumers find it easier to use this as a gauge when they buy supplements. Too bad it’s missing from JYM Post JYM.
JYM Post JYM Benefits
According to Dr. Jim Stoppani, JYM Post JYM is “a powerful post-workout cocktail scientifically designed to help you boost repair, maximize recovery, and build more muscle.”
We agree with Dr. Stoppani’s claims as most of JYM Post JYM’s ingredients are geared toward these goals, and will promote good bodybuilding gains & results.
It’s just unfortunate this product has a misplaced ingredient (beta-alanine) and a “dirty” ingredient (FD&C Red #40).
Who Takes It?
JYM Post JYM is ideal for healthy and active adults, including bodybuilders, who want to boost their post-workout recovery and achieve their fitness goals.
Any Side Effects?
JYM Post JYM has no glaring side effects. However, this supplement contains soy. Those who are allergic to it should steer clear of this product.
The manufacturer also issues a warning:

Final Word on JYM Post JYM
We gave JYM Pro JYM a good rating. We were hoping we can do the same for JYM Post JYM.
Dr. Stoppani’s post-workout product impressed us on most – not all- fronts. We’re confident you’ll not only pack on muscle mass, but achieve your long-term post-workout goals.
However, JYM Post JYM is by no means a perfect product. It’s a good thing the pros outweigh the cons.
Because of that, we urge you to try JYM Post JYM and see the difference for yourself.
