Honestly, do you think six grams of whey protein isolate (WPI) and five grams of leucine can help you build muscle?
The manufacturer of Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 does.
In fact, it claims that much WPI and leucine is the same as consuming 25 grams of the former.
Intriguing, isn’t it?

Post-Workout: Concentrated Muscle Synthesis Formulation
We’ve seen our fair share of bodybuilding post-workout supplements, believe us.
Among the most comprehensive ones we’ve seen are MyProtein Hurricane XS and KAGED MUSCLE RE-KAGED.
Competitors face the daunting task of trying to topple the likes of those two -they’re the best of the best among post-workouts.
Could Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 join their ranks?
It will be interesting to find out.
The manufacturer dubs this product its “Concentrated Muscle Synthesis Formulation,” per its official website.
Our initial impression of Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5: it combines the benefits of whey protein and other post-workout ingredients without the pizzazz of its competitors.
Champion Performance manufactured this supplement on three premises: muscle without the excess calories, clinical dosages, and front-to-back coverage.
The manufacturer realizes the importance of the half-hour post-workout anabolic window – you need to chug on a post-workout shake during this time to recover faster, build muscle, and increase performance.
Here lies the dilemma, folks: you’re most likely oblivious to the calorie content of your post-workout shake.
This is not an issue with Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 – it has only 25 calories per serving.
“It will barely scratch the surface of your daily allotment of calories, and it won’t leave you too full to eat a regular meal afterwards,” per the manufacturer’s official website.
“Yet, it stimulates muscle protein synthesis as much as a 25-gram serving of whey isolate (WPI),” per the same source.
Okay, it’s not as few as the likes of Carbon Recover, which has only 10 calories per serving, but we’ll take it.
We like the company’s promise of not making you feel too full – you need a balanced post-workout meal an hour or so after your last rep for optimum recovery.
We’re also intrigued with its promise of stimulating protein synthesis in the way a 25-gram serving of WPI does.
It’s hard to believe it can do that if there are only six grams of protein per serving.
But then again, Champion Performance SYN Matrix has an estimated five grams or so of leucine – the anabolic branch-chained amino acid – per serving.
You should know by now leucine is the BCAA which kickstarts muscle protein synthesis.
Top that off with this product’s whey protein isolate content, you get a potent serving of muscle-building heaven.
Bear in mind many post-workouts supplements don’t have whey protein at all – you see the staple muscle-building ingredients such as creatine, leucine, arginine, and the like.
With that, we believe the folks at Champion Performance will help amp up your protein synthesis the only way they know how.
In fact, they cite a study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (via their official website) which says a combo of WPI and leucine “stimulated protein synthesis as effectively as 25 g of WPI.”
Wow.
The next premise of Champion Nutrition SYN Matrix 6:5 is its clinical dosages.
This means Champion Performance SYN Matrix features the very same dosages researchers used which proved effective.
Isn’t that awesome, folks?
The final premise is the so-called “front-t0-back coverage.”
The “front” refers to muscle protein synthesis, which must outpace the “back” or muscle protein breakdown.
Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5’s Workout Recovery Matrix has alpha-hydroxy-isocaproic acid (HICA) and l-carnitine l-tartrate to offset the latter.
Alpha-hydroxy-isocaproic acid is also known as leucic acid, a metabolite of leucine which helps increase lean muscle mass, increase energy, and reduce fatigue.
For its part, l-carnitine l-tartrate helps reduce muscle soreness and improve muscle recovery.
Plus, it also acts as a vasodilator in the same way nitric oxide does: it helps dilate the blood vessels for more awesome muscle pumps and effective nutrient absorption.
The bad news: Champion Performance Syn Matrix 6:5’s Workout Recovery Matrix and Muscle Synthesis Blends are proprietary blends.
Yuck.
Just so you know, proprietary blends are fancy names for bodybuilding supplement formulas where manufacturers indicate the total dosage but not the exact amounts of each ingredient.
We don’t need to tell you it’s a deceiving marketing tactic.
Let’s check out the formula ingredients:
- Calories, 25: We like the fact Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 has only 25 calories per serving. The manufacturer claims its product can help you grow muscle mass without compromising your caloric intake. Sure seems like a legit promise to us.
- Total fat, 0 g: Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 has no fats whatsoever, folks. All good.
- Total carbohydrate, 2 g: We consider Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 a low-carb supplement because it has just one percent of the daily value for carbohydrates (anything less than five percent is considered low). Sugar content is low at zero grams per serving. However, the sugar sources (particularly sucralose) aren’t particularly impressive.
- Protein, 6 g: Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5’s six grams of protein per serving is minuscule compared to other post-workouts such as Kris Gethin’s KAGED MUSCLE RE-KAGED (28 grams per serving). However, take solace in the fact six grams of protein plus five grams of leucine is equal to consuming 25 grams of WPI, per the manufacturer’s official website (hence the product name SYN Matrix 6:5).
- Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid), 180 mg: One feature of Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 which stands out is its impressive Vitamin C content. If a whopping 300 percent of the daily value doesn’t grab you, nothing will. Vitamin C consumption helps regulate blood pressure levels, ward off free radicals, and boost cardiovascular health. Don’t forget higher tolerance against cough and colds, folks.
Muscle Synthesis Blend, 11,150 mg
- Whey protein isolate: We consider this blend a proprietary one because the manufacturer doesn’t disclose the exact amount of whey protein isolate (six grams per serving) on the ingredients list. Nonetheless, whey protein isolate (WPI) is a purer form of protein (at least 90 percent) compared to whey protein concentrate (WPC). The latter also absorbs faster and has less fat and carb content.
- Leucine: What’s up with the manufacturer indicating there are five grams of leucine on the official website but not on the ingredients list? That’s a bit baffling, to say the least. We say you should give props to the most anabolic amino acid which helps kickstart protein synthesis. Without it, you can kiss your muscle-building aspirations goodbye.
Workout Recovery Matrix 1,755 mg
- L-carnitine l-tartrate: This is a staple post-workout ingredient which helps boost muscle recovery and reduce soreness. Who would’ve thought it also acts as a vasodilator for more awesome muscle pumps, better nutrient absorption, and increased muscle growth?
- HICA (alpha-hydroxy-isocaproic acid): Also known as leucic acid, this leucine metabolite helps increase endurance and lean muscle mass.
Formula Analysis
We’ve come across claims from many bodybuilding supplement manufacturers, believe us.
Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5’s bold statement that six grams of leucine and five grams of leucine per serving will help stimulate muscle protein synthesis as much as a 25-gram serving of whey protein isolate is one of the most intriguing.
Some fitness experts believe you need 2o to 30 grams of protein after a hard workout to help replenish your worn-out muscles.
However, that’s just protein without the added leucine – the most anabolic branch-chained amino acid (BCAA).
When The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says a 6:5 WPI-leucine ratio will help kickstart protein synthesis, it has to be valid.
It has to be.
Many consumers also swear by it, folks. They’ve been raving about this formula in their online reviews.
Hey, if you get great muscle-building benefits from a 25-calorie serving, then it has to be a great bargain.
The inclusions of l-carnitine l-tartrate and leucic acid should complement this 6:5 protein synthesis formula perfectly – prepare for faster recovery time, more energy, and more muscle mass.
We’re also stoked about Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5’s 300 percent of the daily value for Vitamin C. It’s safe to say you can now throw that ascorbic acid supplement out the window when you have this on your stack.
It’s also awesome Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 has zero grams of fats per serving. It’s also low in carbs at just one percent of the daily value.
Unfortunately, this product isn’t perfect.
We already pointed out it has several proprietary blends (you know how we feel about those). For that, the manufacturer flunks its transparency test.
We also mentioned about Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5’s sugar content, which isn’t high but has questionable value.
You can start with the inclusion of sucralose (.a.k.a Splenda).
This artificial sweetener has been linked to several side effects, particularly obesity.
Why the manufacturer is raving about its product’s low-calorie content but includes Splenda is beyond us – it’s more of a deal-breaker than anything else.
Another questionable ingredient is carrageenan, which has been linked to several ailments. Watch out, folks
Finally, we do not like the inclusion of artificial food colorings because of their side effects. Unforunately, FD&C Yellow No. 6 is one of them.
Note to the manufacturer: why not use something natural such as red beet powder instead?
Tsk, tsk.
Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 Benefits
Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 has the following benefits, per its official website:
- Helps increase muscle growth
- Speeds up recovery and improves overall workout performance
- Facts, not fiction
While we agree with most of these claims, we are a bit unsure about the third one because of the featured proprietary blends. If they’re facts, why hide behind something?
Who Takes It?
Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5 is intended for healthy and active individuals who are at least 18 years of age who want to increase muscle mass, speed up recovery, increase energy and endurance, and achieve their everyday fitness goals.
Any Side Effects?
Champion Performance SYN Matrix has no glaring side effects. However, consumers should be wary of several suspicious ingredients, which include sucralose, carrageenan, and FD&C Yellow No. 6. Consult with a physician if any of these concern you.
The manufacturer also issues a warning:

Final Word on Champion Performance SYN Matrix 6:5
We had high hopes for Champion Performance SYN Matrix.
All along, we thought it could be one of the most comprehensive post-workouts on the market: a 6:5 WPI to leucine ratio, excellent source of Vitamin C, and reputable ingredients.
Alas, lack of transparency, several dirty ingredients, and an expensive price led to its downfall.
On that note, why shell out extra for something which doesn’t bode well for your long-term health?
We sure won’t.
