In today’s narcissistic society, being fit and strong has become the new sexy. Who doesn’t like the idea of posting an after-exercise selfie specially when you got them gains?! Yeah, show the whole world the hard work you do day in and day out! We see a lot of guys flexing their guns or showing their washboard abs but for us, women will always steal the scene with curves that go so well with their muscular physique.
Unsurprisingly, supplement companies like MuscleTech are banking on women to drive their sales too and they do this by release supplements strictly meant for women. I guess in today’s world, women are still reluctant in taking supplements thinking they’re dangerous or something so perhaps this is some form of chivalry.
As charming as these sort of fat burners are, will it actually hold up to our not so charming formula analysis? Let’s find out.

About HydroxyCut SX-7 Black Onyx Max!
HydroxyCut SX-7 Black Onyx Max! seems to really want to cater to women. From the girly font and design to the whole “Advanced Formula for Women.” They even go ahead and say it delivers female-friendly nutrients. Like, so there are nutrients that are misogynists or what? Funny stuff right here but hey, that’s MuscleTech for ya! Formula notes:
- Long name: You gotta wonder who the heck thinks of these names.
- For women: We’re guessing it has some iron in it because iron = for women, right?
- Exotics: Okay, we see a few flowers here so perhaps this is why it’s for girls?

This “female” fat burner isn’t really different from normal fat burners
What is up with companies making sex-specific supplements? Fat burning is a simple concept that is complicated by companies doing things like this. We understand how MuscleTech just wants more female customers but adding iron and some flowers don’t really make this for girls only. Let’s break down the ingredients in this formula:
Robusta Extract, 200 mg
While it acts as a source of energy, it’s main function is to deliver chlorogenic acids, a compound that sparks fat burning and also balance blood sugar. It’s 45% standardized which is pretty good.
Caffeine, 175 mg
Our #2 best fat burner, this amazing stimulant delivers a one-two combo as it not only drives you to lift hard but also melts fat at the same time.
Choline Bitartrate, 100 mg
Choline is one of the most popular choices for nootropics but the form we have here is the weakest. The one we like is Citicoline which is used on heavyweight brain formulas. On top of being a nootropic, it also functions as an appetite suppressant.
Coleus extract, 50 mg
Standardized to 10% forskolin, this little herb here is known to activate what we call the cAMP which triggers fat burning. It also tweaks our thyroid to produce more fat burning hormones.
Hibiscus, 25 mg
This is the same plant in your tea if you’re fond of the flowery ones. Science says it’s a carb blocker and also helps reduce blood pressure.
Lemon verbena, 25 mg
From what we gather, this seems to be some sort of anti-inflammatory ingredient which also doubles as an anti-obesity herb by putting a stop to fat storage. We love this and all but the dose we have here is way, way too small. The doses we see start at 500 mg and up.
Yohimbe extract, 20 mg
Standardized to 6% means we just have over 1 mg of this fortunately potent stimulant-burner. Nonetheless, yohimbine works even in 2 mg doses so perhaps having half the dose isn’t that bad.
Grape extract, 10 mg
This is an antioxidant which is credited for maintaining healthy blood vessels and boosts blood circulation. It’s not a fat burner.
Satsuma mandarin, 1 mg
We’ve seen this used in an earlier version in the SX-7 series but the dosage we have here is halved. Research says it has potential to decrease abdominal fat.
Formula Analysis
MuscleTech’s female fat burner is only female because of the added vitamins. After that, it’s just another fat burner in the market. It’s a shame too since the marketing guys created such a long name to make sure it stood out.
For the most part, Black Onyx Max! got the fat burning right with their use of robusta extract, caffeine, and coleus. These three are potent fat burners in their own right and we’re so impressed with them they’re included in our official list of best fat burners. Let’s even throw in yohimbine just because of the potential synergy it has with the other ingredients.
So what went wrong? The doses for each ingredient, even the exotic fat burners, were softened. We have no idea why the doses were low but perhaps their marketing group thought “Girls don’t like big doses” which, in our most humble opinion, is just teetering on the edge of sexism.
What they should’ve done is remove the exotics and focus the doses for their burners. Maybe remove choline bitartrate too since that shit’s weak.
For their herbs, we don’t hate exotics but we have to acknowledge the fact that not only are these herbs questionable in effect but they also require massive dosing, something this fat burner just doesn’t have. We say it would’ve been better off if it just severed these ingredients and focused on what works.
Is the blend weak? Nope. It works fine if you look at it. Is the blend broken? Definitely. It needs some massive tweaking in doses and figuring out which exotic should go.
HydroxyCut SX-7 Black Onyx Max! Benefits
You will get an energy and metabolic boost for sure but it won’t be THAT intense. Will you get a reduced appetite? We don’t think so but perhaps if you took more than one serving, you will.
Who Takes It?
Definitely for women (or people) who don’t like the idea of super strong fat burners. I guess when you label your product as “female” or “for women”, you’re sort of implying the fat burner is weakened. There’s a market for small-dosed ingredients but we’re not included in them.
Any Side Effects?
You only have to worry about caffeine and yohimbine here because of stimulant related side effects such as palpitations, sleeplessness, jitters, and crashing. If you’re also sensitive to certain vitamins, you may want to double check the ones it has.

Final Word on HydroxyCut SX-7 Black Onyx Max!
HydroxyCut SX-7 Black Onyx Max! is an awesome name matched with a not-so-awesome formula. What would’ve been a great formula was softened by trying to formulate it for the female crowd, something the fat burning industry should stop doing. It’s not because we’re against prioritizing women but we’re against the whole assumption that adding a few vitamins would suddenly make a gender-less fat burner lean towards a female audience.
Outside of the whole “this is for girls” issue, HydroxyCut SX-7 Black Onyx Max! is just a fancy name on an average fat burner and we’re not even sure if people even think it’s a cool name.
